Celebrating 65 Years of Service: OISCA International’s 2026 Global Vision

​From the visionary conferences of 1961 to the bustling training centers of 2026, OISCA International has stood as a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of human collaboration. Founded in Tokyo by Rev. Dr. Nakano Yonosuke, our organization was born from a simple yet profound realization: that world peace and environmental health are inextricably linked. Today, we celebrate a legacy that transcends borders, cultures, and generations.

​The heart of our mission lies in the "Spirit of Muddy Labor." This isn't just a catchy phrase; it is our foundational philosophy of shared physical work. Whether it’s a Japanese agricultural expert or a local farmer in rural India, we believe that true equality and trust are built when we sweat together in the fields. This "bottom-up" approach ensures that our projects are never imposed, but are instead born from the soil and the soul of the community.

​Our history in India remains one of our proudest chapters. During the food shortages of the 1960s, OISCA dispatched dozens of volunteers to work alongside Indian farmers. By prioritizing appropriate technology and organic fertilizers, we contributed to the historic Green Revolution that saw India achieve grain self-sufficiency by 1973. This experience taught us that technical aid only truly succeeds when it respects local wisdom and spiritual traditions.

​As we move through 2026, our Global Policy Document outlines a roadmap for a sustainable future. We are now active in 41 countries and areas, managing over 20 training centers that empower the next generation. Our vision is clear: a world where humanity harmoniously coexists by nurturing the ecological bases of all life. We don’t just plant trees; we cultivate leaders who understand the delicate balance of our planet.

​The Children’s Forest Program (CFP), launched in 1991, has become a global phenomenon. To date, over 5,200 schools have participated, resulting in more than 7.7 million seedlings planted by young hands. In India alone, over 2,000 schools are actively teaching children the value of biodiversity and rainwater harvesting. By involving children in the practical act of planting, we are sowing the seeds of environmental stewardship that will last a lifetime.

​Our environmental restoration efforts are legendary for their longevity and impact. In Thailand, the Ranong Mangrove project has flourished for over 25 years, proving that long-term commitment leads to ecosystems that save lives during tsunamis and typhoons. Similarly, in the harsh deserts of Uzbekistan, we are greening the Aral Sea bed by planting Saxaul trees, transforming a man-made environmental disaster into a new industry for local families.

​OISCA’s work extends deep into the Pacific, where we lead coral rehabilitation in Fiji and sustainable forest management in Papua New Guinea. Our 2026 targets are ambitious, aiming for a cumulative 23,500 hectares of restored land. We use high-tech satellite tracking alongside grassroots community monitoring to ensure a minimum 80% survival rate for every forest we plant, prioritizing native species to protect local biodiversity.

​Disaster resilience is another pillar of our modern strategy. Following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, OISCA teams were on the ground within 72 hours. Our "Build Back Better" policy focuses on long-term recovery, such as the Natori City coastal restoration project, which has revitalized local employment while creating a natural shield against future sea surges.

​Youth capacity development remains our cornerstone. Our residential training programs provide 6 to 12 months of intensive leadership and agricultural education. We don't stop at graduation; we provide two years of monitoring and startup support to ensure our alumni become national change-makers. From Indonesia to Fiji, OISCA alumni are now winning provincial awards and leading their own sustainable enterprises.

​Transparency and accountability are the bedrock of our 2026 operations. With the integration of digital tracking and annual multilingual audits, we ensure that at least 70% of all funds go directly into our field programs. By maintaining overheads below 15% and prioritizing local suppliers, we maximize the economic impact in the regions where we work, ensuring that every contribution makes a tangible difference.

​As we look toward the 2030 target of becoming carbon-negative, OISCA continues to forge powerful partnerships with the UN, national governments, and global corporations. Our 2025 Global Summit in South India recently brought together leaders from across our 31 chapters to share best practices on climate adaptation. We are proving that when we work together, even the most daunting environmental challenges can be overcome.
